for Uniform Methods of Sugar Analysis;
ICUMSA Color - a method utilized
to determine the color of a sugar, through light absorption and/or
reflection by a sugar solution. The higher the absorption/reflection
the higher the sugar color and the higher the number indicating
its color;
Pol - apparent quantity of
sugar;
Moisture -
water content in sugar;
Ashes - amount
of solubilized salts in a sugar solution, assessed by electrical
conductivity;
Black Spots - visual count
of dark particles in a certain amount of sugar;
Magnetic Particles - metallic
particles contained in sugar, determined by the use of magnets;
Insoluble Residues - insoluble
impurities from the raw material, sugarcane, contained in the
sugar;
SO2 -residue
of the product utilized in the sugar bleaching process;
Molds and Yeasts - fungi
widely distributed in the environment may be found as normal flora
in foodstuffs;
Salmonella - pathogenic
enterobacterial natural in man and warm-blooded animals. Salmonellas
make up a large group which includes about 1,570 biochemically-related
serum types.
